“ANOTHER”

another morning …
given that the operative word
there is “another,”
I suppose I could be grateful
even for this arthritic pain

for this battle ground my body’s become,
for the all-out siege I wake up to each day

pain entrenched in joint after joint as I
gather myself to push it all back again

grateful when I manage to wrestle it away (if
barely enough) to get on with another morning
