THE SPINE OF THE NIGHT (photomorph) & A DEVILISH YEARNING (free verse dream poem) by Roswila
A DEVILISH YEARNING
that sense of being bad, of some
transgression having been willfully
made: yes, that would be far more
welcome than this bland
slide to nowhere
oh, the odd protest slips out here or a hand
slaps the icy decline in anger there
but nothing new limns the landscape and nothing
much ever did, except for the ice sculptures
that youth managed somehow to hew
in a few of the more startling curves
yes, surprising curves still appear around many
a corner begging a shaping but youth’s long
since turned to fragile hoar frost
leaving only the yearning for a little
devilish heat
[free verse poem inspired by a dream fragment of 1-8-19. Photomorph, re-post of “The Spine of the Night” (in a 2012 folder, or earlier) by Roswila]
