STURGEON FULL MOON (photomorph) & ...AND HAVING WRIT... (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

...AND HAVING WRIT...

intro:

the full moon almost always puts the kibosh
on my dream recall, but this Sturgeon
Moon's advent and (now) presence
has streamed through recent nights
trailing dreams that don't close
over like invaded water
erasing everything but
impress themselves
in memory long
enough to see
and feel like
footprints
in wet
sand

the dream:

the small city's buildings have nothing on
my old home town of New York City's sky
scrapers, but this is hardly relevant from
the human standpoint as I stand on
the sidewalk, and crane my
neck up and to the left --

above and across the length of the low
skyline curls what can only be called
a tsunami, hanging like a video on
pause, long enough for me to freeze
the rising panic threatening to flood
me before this gravity defying ocean's
monster fingers fracture
the sleeping city

as I turn to run I realize how much
this massive wave looks like an old
Japanese brush painting on which
a haiku has been calligraphed,
over and over, in a single
black towering line:

and
having
writ
the
fingers
move
on

[free verse poem on a dream of 8-27-18. Yes, that last line/stanza is almost a direct quote from Omar Khayyam's writing. Though in the dream I only knew it's what I saw, not it's source. As to that verticality: it is how Japanese characters are actually brush written/drawn and how they were imagined in the dream. BTW, the Japanese art referenced in the dream is called a haiga: a haiku on a brush painting. Photomorph "Sturgeon Full Moon" (5-13-18 034v2s) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
