SHE CONTEMPLATES HER NEXT MOVE (photomorph) & BRIDGE GAME (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
BRIDGE GAME
four unselfconsciously lovely
elderly ladies play bridge
in golden afternoon light
like mythic goddesses
they carefully place or playfully drop
bits of universes here and there,
even as they reclaim others
to create a winning hand
but there can be no losers
where beauty paired with brains abounds
[non-dream free verse poem written 7-9-18. Oh well, it was well intentioned, if only resulting in a "meh" poem. These ladies are neighbors in the retirement community I live in. (Yeah, I've been doing some complaining recently that my poems aren't up to snuff these days. But maybe I had a somewhat grandiose idea of what my poems have been like in the past? And, in truth, I'm only now "getting real" about my self assessment? I've said for many, many years that I think all my artistic efforts are basically massively mediocre. Maybe I'm only now really getting the truth in that. BTW, there's nothing wrong with being mediocre. It only stings if one has had [in my case, denied] pretensions to anything more.) There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
