OMPHALOS (photomorph) & BELLY DANCING REDUX (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
BELLY DANCING REDUX
belly dancers share their artistry
again in dreams, images trailing
memories of years when I was not only
a fan but briefly studied this ancient
celebration of the female form and its
ability to give birth, memories with
entangling emotions almost as profuse
as the long fronds of this dancing willow
draping its languid, light brown belly
like the teasing of veils, the willow's
trunk vaguely suggesting the rounded
lines of a belly dancer, and the omphalos-
like dimple at the center winking in
and out of shadow, opening and closing
in response to life's alternating gift
of light ... then dark ... then light
[non-dream free verse poem written 8-9-18. *"omphalos" -- "a rounded stone (especially that at Delphi [of the famous oracle]) representing the navel of the earth in ancient Greek mythology" (from Wikipedia). This poem was inspired by stumbling across an earlier version of the accompanying pic of mine. BTW, yes, this poem is basically a run-on sentence the way I've punctuated and laid it out. But I hope it can still be followed by a reader. Photomorph "Omphalos" (3-25-17 010v4) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
