THE CHANNEL

I ask nothing more
of you than this:

when I am dying,
step up to my bed
and lie down beside me

lay your limbs along
the lengths of mine
and feel how
the last of my life
still calls to yours

let us glide for a while
like two rivers
meeting in the channel
they've sculpted,
pouring their lives out
as they wend their ways home
