A TORRENT OF STARS (photomorph) & THE ADVENTURE (dream narrative) by Roswila

THE ADVENTURE

my father's driving us along the east coast
after a storm: the weather's cleared nicely
but we hear the main road of the small seaside
town we're headed toward has either washed
out or has a mudslide across it

as we approach the town my father wonders
out loud which of two roads to take to skirt the main
road's outage; I stare out the car window, watching
the thick green deciduous trees bob in the post-storm
breezes and suggest he just go with the one we usually
take, the right hand one that the truckers
and we always use

though which one we take doesn't really matter;
neither of us recalls anymore where in the town we're
headed or even why we're on this trip to begin with,
and any washed out or mud buried road will be
a further surprise, an adventure: there's no way
to figure out ahead of time
how to go around it

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

* * * *
until next time, keep dreaming,
