CORKSCREW PUNCH (photomorph) & THE BOXING GAME (dream based free verse poem) by Roswila
THE BOXING GAME
she keeps trying to fill up the cavernous
space that echoes darkly inside herself,
creaking and threatening to collapse
and take her down like some lost
and lonely spelunker, with
learning how to box
even as she agrees with that persistent voice
in the back of her mind that asks: why should
she now, at this late age and in such physical
decline, take on this humongous task
yet, not only does the mysterious necessity
press itself upon her, leading her to struggle
to complete even one of the many strenuous
lessons she sees lying ahead of her, but
the odd desire to develop this particular
new skill draws her like
nothing else ever has
and so, despite her wobbly balance and aching
heart, she puts her arms and hands, shoulders
and legs and heaving core, into what feels
like the single most demanding and yet
light-filled challenge of her life

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
