THE HIGH HORSE

why am I getting up on
my high horse?
well, maybe because I feel
far safer up here,
out of reach

or would you prefer
that I crawl inside
this hollow ride
and rock my way boldly
into your world, only
to split open like that
wooden horse of myth,
spilling the danger
that's extruded
by unrelieved fear
