THE MASK COMES OFF (photo) & UNMASKING ZORRO (tanka dream series) by Roswila

UNMASKING ZORRO

she's known for a while
this acquaintance of hers is Zorro
and held her silence
but now that they're alone in this cave
it's time for the truth to come out

she's even known the why
of his masquerade beyond
caring for his people:
his love for her and desire
to be what he thinks she wants

her happy belief
that he'll welcome the unmasking,
however, is dashed
as he promptly storms from the cave,
a crackling flame of denial

she'd been ignorant
of the most important secret:
sometimes a lived out
fantasy itself is more cherished
than the reality from which it springs

and sadly, now that
the reality she'd yearned for has
come up cold and empty,
she stands at the mouth of the cave
wishing she had the illusion back

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
