LAST LIGHT OF THE DAY (photo) & "the sunlight shining through..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila
(for Helen)
the sun shining through
a slice of lemon meringue pie
her surprised laughter
[haiku written 6-20-16. That pie image is not a metaphor; it's what she was responding to in the last line. And yet, and yet, a smile on a dear friend could very well be compared to sun through something as sweet as pie. And therein, to me, lies the genius in the design of haiku: sticking clearly to one actual moment that then often connects outward to so much more. I.e., not imposing a metaphor on a scene, but letting it arise unstated, if/as it will out of the moment's unembellished setting on the page. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
