ROOTS OF NIGHT (photo) & ON IMPATIENCE (free verse poem) by Roswila
ON IMPATIENCE
Like an aging oak, I go on, always go on,
as growth stirs, raked by heavy air,
and rock traps roots.
Can leaves duck the brutal wind?
Can roots lift themselves like feet?
Or is this green dance, minute and slow,
the only one there is?
(Wait, watch,
it splits rock,
devours wind)
[free verse poem written in April 1989, revised numerous times later, and again today in May 2019. And it’s still not “right” as far as I’m concerned. Yet I’ve liked it since first written and can’t bring myself to delete it. I posted it here in 2006 and maybe another posting today will shake lose whatever my problem is with it. Of course, it’s probably so stuck in my mind after all these years and editing sessions that it’s more like a familiar old friend than a viable poem. 😊 Photo “Roots of Night” (4-13-18 012[2]) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
