INCINERATION (photomorph) & TRASH DAY (dream narrative) by Roswila

TRASH DAY

that almost-friend who deals with
many of the same physical issues I
struggle with, approaches me gently
(we tend to relate as if hesitating at
the edge of a remove between us,
waiting to see if either of us will ever
step across it); I go on weeding out the
humongous piles of ancient files and
shoving filled boxes aside to take to the
trash; she tilts her head on hearing my
96 year old boss's querulous male voice
calling out from the other room, asking
about my progress; yeah, I say to her, I
can't believe my boss and I kept most of
this stuff all these decades, can you?
time to let go, yes? she smiles and asks
if we'd be willing to sell any of the
oldest files we still have left to her;
how odd, I think, but what's that old
expression? one man's trash,
another man's treasure?

[narrative on a dream of 3-25-18. The woman is actually in my life now, and the boss was mine from 1991 to 1996 (and he was in his 90's back then). This dream is still pretty much a puzzlement. Usually after writing even the densest open up. Right now all I see is a reflection of what I've been doing (little by little) in my life: letting go of both literal and metaphorical junk. I do find the contrast between letting go of decades of old stuff and then having a new person actually be interested in it, intriguing. Someone who's quite a bit like me in some ways. Maybe that's it, though. The dream may at its heart be about struggling with an ambivalence about letting go. Oy! I just thought: not wanting all that work, all those years, to be nothing but trash, but to have value in some way. Well, I've used the image of compost often enough in my writing. Maybe I can think of all this "trash" as compost. Ah well, there's still a sense remaining that there's something more I'm not hearing from this dream. It'll probably surface in time. There have been dreams that opened to me months and even years later. Photomorph "Incineration" (3-21-10 10044v10a) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
