LOST IN THE WOODS (photomorph) & NO MATTER HOW YOU SPELL IT, IT STILL MEANS "LONELY" (free verse three dream poem) by Roswila

NO MATTER HOW YOU SPELL IT,
IT STILL MEANS "LONELY"

dream 1 -

she's overweight and well past middle-aged
but the handsome younger man comes on
to her anyway; no dummy, she senses he's
trying to turn over a new leaf, going with
a different sort of woman and not simply
jumping the bones of the nearest nubile
female: but how can she -- so old and un-
known -- be a new leaf; hell, he's hardly
even talked with her; and so she backs
away (if very regretfully): no more abuse
for her; she'll be seen and acknowledged
as herself or remain unheld; she doesn't
have that much farther to go and she's
managed to stumble the longest part
of this haul alone; what's left will
be a piece of cake, maybe not
very sweet, but cake
nevertheless

dream 2 -

she invites me to visit her home of many doors
that stand shut in a long, rounded hallway; I wait
while she considers door after door by which
we might enter her space, but ultimately she
chooses none and hurries abruptly away,
her obvious shyness and anxiety over-
taking her initial urge to be welcoming;
I look around the empty hall of many
doors, wondering if I should wait a bit
for the return of her courage, or get
on with trying to recall just where
it was I was headed before
her odd invitation

dream 3 -

his single-seat training plane waits on the runway;
it's small and black with chrome trim, and all sharp
angles; he slips happily into it, anxious to take
his first D.Y.I. flying lesson, but he's frozen
with fright on lift off: how does one steer
such a complicated raptor? there are too
many levers demanding attention from
both arms and legs; he looks around for
help that, of course, isn't there, and he's
so dizzy that he fears falling out before
he's even a few yards from the ground:
how could a wish granted at last turn
sour not only this fast but totally?

[free verse poem based on three separate dreams of 8-8-17. I've had this one ready to post for a little while, but have mixed feelings about it. I'd also considered posting it as three separate poems (i.e., on three separate days). But that didn't change my mixed feelings that run through all of them. Is it the whiff of self-pity that informs each of them? Or just that they have no "punch" as writing. As a dream each delivered quite a hit to the solar plexus for me, but somehow that doesn't come across in the writing. Ah well, I have nothing else even this ready to post, so here it is, warts and all. Photomorph "Lost in the Woods" (2-13-17 020v2a) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
