OUTSIDE THE WHEEL (photo) & FOR REAL (free verse dream poem) by Roswila
FOR REAL
I can't tell what his interest is in me,
but think it's for real, whatever it is. Then
he hands me his contact information
for when this series of classes we're taking
is over and we go our separate ways,
the feeling of genuineness confirmed,
if still cloudy.
When I notice his motorbike, he gives
me a mini-lecture on an old book he'd just
re-read and how it's message was exactly what
we're being taught in the classes. Before he
even says the title I've realized what book it is
and blurt out "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle
Maintenance!"* Adding that I read it ages
ago and although I can't recall details
it really effected me at the time.
Then it hits me: he likes me because
he thinks I have a lot to learn and he can
teach me, that I'm a lump of clay for him
to shape to reflect the aesthetics
he's been picking up along his way,
a block of marble from which
he can sculpt his own Galatea.**
I sigh out loud, getting a puzzled look
from him as he hurries to his bike,
and I think there goes another failed hope
to be embraced just as I am, for once not
to be buried beneath the hot exhaust
of another's driving purpose.
[free verse poem on a dream of 12-2-16. *Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." After reading up on it at this link, I'm beginning to think I might really benefit from re-reading it. **In Greek mythology, Galatea (female) was the statue that Pygmalion (male) sculpted and fell in love with. A modern take on it is the musical "My Fair Lady." Photo "Outside the Wheel" (5-25-09 1729v6) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
