NIGHT OF THE KRAKEN (photomorph) & SAD TO SEE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

SAD TO SEE

I've been dancing with the devil
my entire life and did not know it,
doing the fastest mazurka ever
in order to escape his taloned grip,
sad to see from the forced vantage
of this hobbling slow down into even
older age, that he's the only partner
this aging fool has ever had
and most likely ever will

[free verse poem written 7-12-17. It might add an additional level to this little (so-so) poem) to know that one of my "family" of cards in the Tarot is The Devil. Each card can be attributed to an astrology sign. And The Devil's is Capricorn, which is my astrology sun sign. Cards can also be considered related to a reader via their numbers (in numerology) or to the decan they rule in the astrology chart, and so on. So one winds up with several cards with particular significance. Significance that can evolve even as we do. In this case, though, I was feeling stuck in the unevolved takes on The Devil card and in my life. Though I have to admit I do doubt there ever will be another partner for me to dance with (even if I could now, what with my arthritic knees -- Big Wry Laugh). BTW, there's a little stretch of a pun in the title, as the Hebrew letter often attributed to The Devil is "Ayin," which, in noun form, means "eye." (The 22 Major Arcana cards of the Tarot often have a Hebrew letter assigned to each of them. In learning them, of course, I learned the Hebrew alphabet by heart. And writing this little poem set me off trying to re-memorize those forgotten letters, and their noun form meanings and cards. Good exercise for the old brain, I should think!) PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
