SHAPING THE SHORE (photo) & IN THE WRECKAGE OF A LIFE (free verse dream re-entry poem) by Roswila

IN THE WRECKAGE OF A LIFE

oy, here I go again,
more flotsam and jetsam,
(and this time masses of it spread
as far as the eye can see) that must
be cleaned up, dragged from
the innocent sea of possibility

this debris (as all before it)
rising from the wreckage
of an understanding du jour
I'd sailed in order to stay
afloat, to go on

I suppose I could be grateful
for whatever kept me going after
each successive ship went down
with all aboard, for whatever guardian
angel that appeared to give my downed
heart the necessary jump start
to build or pirate (or even imagine
in my own peculiar way) a new
ship to carry me through

and this time I discover the gift
of a small pride, gleaming in this
newest huge galleon's wreckage,
like a doubloon that's not gone
down with the ship into the
mud of oblivion

I cup it in my palm, shining faces
on both its sides smiling like
a newly minted Janus,* one profile
acknowledging the past, the other
looking into an unknown future,
prompting recall of a line
by a favorite poet: love makes
the little thickness
of the coin

[free verse poem based on re-entry of a dream on 9-23-16, written 9-24-16. "Dream re-entry" is when one does just that: goes back into the dream while awake (in what, for me, is always a semi-trance state). And explores it imaginatively to see where it will go. E.g, the doubloon was discovered on re-entry. *Janus, a Greek deity. Photo "Shaping the Shore" (9-10-16 007v2) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
