SIGILS & SIGNS (photo) & THE SLINGSHOT (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE SLINGSHOT

though there's no love
in my life of the kind
for which I'm yearning
and have never had
just this fathomless aching for it
puts a relief of bittersweet distance
between me and all the pain,
all the absence

and more, the suffocating memories
of other sorts of suffering,
all the specters poisoning the air,
towering clouds of threats
pervading the atmosphere as each
subsequent attack collapses
the life I keep rebuilding

brave love! -- or rather yearning toward
a fantasy love -- to stand like this
between me and such a compounded
agony, like little David with his slingshot

and, yes, would that this fantasy's stone
were a knockout kiss, a sigil
transforming endless agony
into a huge love

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
