THE HEART MOURNS (photomprh) & PRAYER TO DEEP SADNESS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO DEEP SADNESS

help me to take you in graciously,
Sadness, as you rise again to fill
another day, for more and more
I question my reflexive urge
to flee at the first sight
of the shadow you cast ahead
realizing I cannot out run you
anymore than I could leave behind
my breath or heartbeat
and sense with a puzzling
certainty that all you truly require
if not an open armed welcome
is permission to simply be:
like a starved stray cat curled shivering
against the ribs surrounding my heart
unsure as yet if it's found a home

[non-dream free verse poem written 5-22-16. Sixth in a "Prayer to..." series, all posted here (Prayer to the sun, Prayer to the Haze, Prayer to Empty Moments, Prayer to An Other, and Prayer to Surrender) so just search by title (search box is in the upper left of this page) if you're interested. PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
