CATAWAMPUS ROSE (photomorph) & THE FULL STORY (dream prose poem) by Roswila
THE FULL STORY
my father's written a book about my mother's death,
both a surprising exposure of ultimate responsibility
and a defense, a sort of non-murder whodunit
that's already been publicized though not yet
distributed or even in production; early scuttlebutt
has it that the book will be a blockbuster,
but I remain rather inexplicably detached
from all the fuss, just watching at an airy remove
as Dad walks purposefully through present day
New York City streets, to retrieve the only copy
of the manuscript as he senses he's got straightening
out to do in it, like a deck of playing cards askew
after 52 pick-up; yes, I think, the full story's
always a work in progress isn't it?
[prose poem (?) on a dream of 3-2-16. In the dream this was my actual father (who died when he was 66) and mother (deceased at 34). Too much to go into here, but the dream was heavily influenced by my recent research on ancestry.com and having sent in my DNA for analysis. Ultimately, though, I think it's the implications of the last line that are most important. BTW, about that question mark after calling this writing a prose poem ... well, I'm having that frequent difficulty I have with what to call what I've written on a dream. And as usual I'm waffling back and forth between some sort of poem and not a poem. Photomorph "Catawampus Rose" (3-3-16 002v9) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
