SHADOW BIRD (photomorph) & A BANG-UP SHOW (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A BANG-UP SHOW

his son's giving a bang-up show
at the piano, not only playing classics
like a pro, but making well-timed
and appropriate jokes as his fingers
prance across the keyboard

the apple sure didn't fall far from that tree!
his father must be so proud ... speaking
of whom, ah yes, there's his Dad
in the front row

but why's he looking away from his son's
delightful display of talent and skill?
and what is that look on his face?

the father actually seems embarrassed
or at least disappointed ... how sad
that he holds such unrealistic
expectations that he can't appreciate
his son's night in the limelight

or maybe it's that strong resemblance
between them that's unconsciously
disturbing the father so,

a mirror reflecting not only the light
but the shadows that he'd rather not own

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
