STIRRING THE DUST (photomorph) & DISAPPOINTING DUST (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

DISAPPOINTING DUST

too many mornings
the dreams escape, flapping off
the reel of waking consciousness,
where once each had played back
like an ancient home movie

if clearly imperfect and shot through
with spots burning blankly,
each was still a credible story
(more or less), an event
to be rolled around on the tongue
of memory and creatively expressed
(as the Irish say: don't let the truth
get in the way of a good story)

but now too often,
like Tibetan sand mandalas,
the dreams blow away on the first hint
from the wind of waking

each grain of wind-tossed dream
falling rapidly through
the waking mind's orderly net,
their minute pieces of possibility
disappearing into the well
of non-being, only a vaguely gritty
residue left to worry at the mind's eye:

what if the dreams flee some night,
never to return again,
not even to tip toe by, trailing
a disappointing dust

[free verse poem about a notable decrease in dream recall, drafted 12-17-15. This is the poem I mentioned in my comments yesterday. The one that (to a large degree) precipitated yesterday's prose poem. Both poems were drafted the same night, this one when I woke about 1:30 and yesterday's in the further wee hours when I woke again. As to my concern about decreasing dream recall, some of last night's dreams are with me and I may write on them later today. So far, so good. Of course, it will be anxiety provoking when the full moon is almost here this month (it's full on Christmas). As that's a time when my dream recall frequently decreases a bit. I should note that this concern and anxiety is not only about dream recall. It's about fear of loss and change of all kinds. Photomorph "Stirring the Dust" (11-27-15 007v7) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
