DIADEM (photo art) & A PLACE IN THE SUN (free verse dream poem) by Roswila
A PLACE IN THE SUN
large glossy posters of Renaissance Queens
hang on two-side-by-side front doors
glistening in the bright sun from a skylight
the Queen on the right hand door
intones a Shakespearean soliloquy,
while the one on the left winks at me
as if to say her friend is such a ham
I've not seen either of these women
since they moved this far away and note
they're both clearly very happy
in their new homes: neither would ever
have been in a play before, dressed up
and crowned like a pageant winner
for all the world to see on a front door
envy peppered with old angers at these two
women sinks in my stomach like a stone,
quickly leavened by a rising delight:
they've each found a place in the sun
[free verse poem on a dream of 4-27-14. This dream again plays -- pun intended -- with that image of life being a stage. The dream's ending is more evolved than I was when going to sleep, and still is now days after dreaming it. I keep wanting to revise (or even cut) the last two lines to reflect how I felt before the dream and do now. But that would do a disservice to the dream, which was clearly trying to move me along, to "grow me up." Photo art "Diadem" (4-15-14 022v2) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
