MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN (photo) & BITING BACK (dream tanka trio) by Roswila

BITING BACK

Yes, my dear, I do
have rather big and pointy
front teeth, but my bark
is truly far worse as I
won’t let myself take a bite

so, would you be
the dear I know you can be
and help me do this
help me file down this sharp
and jagged dentition,

smooth these edges before
I draw blood from my own lips --
I tire of all this
cautious smiling and my jaw aches
for unfettered discourse

[three tanka on a dream of 11-21-12. Another fairy tale reference. This one harking back to “Little Red Riding Hood” (e.g., when she says to the wolf who’d swallowed her grandmother, “My, what big teeth you have!”) Also, a slant reference to vampires. Lots in all this, even beyond those two associations. And, no, I didn't forget, despite my grumpy mood I'm aware of all there is to be grateful for:
Happy Thanksgiving!

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO DREAMKU (& PHOTOS): The dream-based poems posted on this blog -- dreamku, tanka, two-liners, and monoku -- are offered in the spirit of collaboration. I have done my part. Now it’s your turn to jump in and see what comes up for you. I.e., there is no right or wrong way to understand or interpret any of these dream offerings. Even my own understandings of them change over time. And it gives me joy when a reader sees something in any of them that I have not.

For more in-depth exploration:
