NIGHT VISION (photo) & A WALK IN THE PARK (dreamku series) by Roswila

A WALK IN THE PARK

as I wander through
the sprawling city park
the sun starts to set
I skirt the zoo and enter
an echoing park tunnel

a man stumbles ahead
of me with two unleashed dogs –
knowing this violates
the law he holds them by fists-
full of their wolf-like fur

they’re all clearly home-
less and just as clearly the man
fears losing the dogs,
either to flight or to the pound,
as he bends to his awkward task

while I approach and
pass him by I look around
for something, anything
at all out of which he might
jury rig a pair of leashes

but I find nothing
and the bent man neither hears nor
sees me as I pass

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO DREAMKU (& PHOTOS): The dream-based poems posted on this blog -- dreamku, tanka, two-liners, and monoku -- are offered in the spirit of collaboration. I have done my part. Now it’s your turn to jump in and see what comes up for you. I.e., there is no right or wrong way to understand or interpret any of these dream offerings. Even my own understandings of them change over time. And it gives me joy when a reader sees something in any of them that I have not.

For more in-depth exploration:
