THE DIG, poem by Patricia Kelly
this loneliness not
for another but for
something lost in one’s
self or perhaps never
found so far in the pre-
conscious past like
fragile bones of an un-
known dinosaur uncovered
these ancient remains
raise doubts about
one’s eyes and the re-
construction the form so
alien so unexpected delicately
balanced in the network of
one’s mind limned by the light
of dawning consciousness can
this really be true?
