ALL DAILY DREAMKU & TANKA WITH PHOTOS POSTED IN JULY 2009
Oh my goodness! Made it through another month, this one jam packed with all sorts of both external and internal activity. Digital photography is filling more and more of my time. Not the taking of the pictures (though one day I did take 183 ... yes, that’s not a typo ... 183 pix), but the editing of them. And then the upkeep of the picture files. Weeding out those I really don’t see being salvageable, so that my computer won’t have a stroke.... I have taken just about 1,500 pix since late March. Then, dealing with the evolution of my various little jobs and volunteer responsibilities in the retirement community I live in, and so on. Not to mention keeping up with my three blogs, doing some creative writing, and getting regular exercise. Fortunately, exercise dovetails with taking photos – I take very long walks. Oh, and then there’s cleaning my room, doing laundry, having a social life such as going to a movie with a friend or to see the “Butterflies Alive!” exhibit in the S.B. Museum of Natural History.
I think the dreamku below reflect this new life and it’s challenges fairly well. And I hope the addition of a digital photo to each post adds something interesting. I’ve certainly had great fun selecting a photo for each post. I mostly choose them in the tradition of haiga – illustrated haiku. That is, rather than attempting to directly illustrate the accompanying poetry, I select them based on a small and even sometimes very slant or punning aspect of the words that I see reflected in the photo.

I’m in hot pursuit

caught and grounded
I let him inch toward the beach
observing woman
“He’s a war criminal,”
I tell her in my defense
the young woman nods
she leaves to locate

we wander a dirt

a blonde man appears
his ghostly male mate
also approaches us
we’ve all met before
the blonde tells a story
we had heard over dinner:
Hollywood welcomes
the charismatic Buddhist,
youthful and enthusiastic
he becomes their new darling
he soon realizes
he’s becoming a sham, too
he leaves Cher’s home
the men on the road
ask me what is most important
respect surprises
I answer
hesitantly: compassion
they wanted more
something new or poetic
but can’t deny this deathless truth
