NIGHT CLIMBING (photo) & TWO PALMS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
TWO PALMS
some day I will write a poem
about these two tall straight
palms and their partnership
against the sky, graceful as they
parallel each other even in
the high winds; maybe it's their
rootedness close by each other
in the same patch of earth that
gives them such stability, or
maybe it's the white clouds
that back them up; and even
though, as with most things
perceived by the human eye,
all this is a projection, I'm quite
fond of imagining that these two
palms stand proud, partnering
each other as they climb
toward heaven
[non-dream free verse poem written 5-15-17. The photo today is of the two palms referenced in this poem. I often watch them from some distance away when I sit on our retirement community's library balcony that over looks our pool. I've taken many different closer day shots of them, and ultimately settled on this one after quite a bit of editing. Not being a trained photographer (that's putting it mildly) I mostly just experiment and learn as I go along. Trying to get and ultimately edit an at least decent pic of these palms was a fun challenge, given the bright sun, their heights, and the surrounding poles and wires and building. And, honestly, I'm still not all that happy with this pic as it doesn't really get across what the poem comes a bit closer to doing. Photo "Night Climbing" (5-18-17 014v2) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
