BUSH BABIES (photomorph) & A SHOT AT THE GOLD (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
A SHOT AT THE GOLD
I have not, and might not ever catch
the Golden Ring on this not-so-
Merry-Go-Round of a life
but today on sighting a bush whose shadows
entice a photo or two, I recall crawling
beneath just such a green and twiggy
jumble as a toddler, on an Easter egg hunt
and to my great delight retrieving the most
special of all eggs, the Golden One! for
my colorful woven basket
maybe we only get one shot at the Gold,
and if so, I certainly took mine that day
and ran with it, my basket filled with eggs
of every color in a nest of lavender
plastic grass, swinging from my chubby fist,
to show off to my mother and grandmother
who waited at the other end
of the long green lawn
I don't know why they were so sad
that day, even though they smiled as I
rushed up to them, hoping the Golden
Egg, surrounded by others
in a rainbow of colors,
would cheer them
I can't now recall if it did
but remembering that day slows
my own melancholy spin and I sigh
and stretch, close my eyes, and gratefully
lift my face to the golden orb of the sun

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
