SINGING FOR THE SUN (photo) & ON SINGING (free verse poem) by Roswila

ON SINGING

dreaming of singing "...out of my dreams
and into your arms I long to fly ..."* in full
soprano voice she surfaces toward morning

how easy it once was, in her long ago
youth, to reach those top notes
she just nailed in sleep all night long
in song after song, no harder than retrieving
a box from the back of a top shelf
for a short roommate

but even if old age has limited her reach
she can go on singing all those songs
and their high notes in her mind

and she indulges in a wistful
and thoroughly welcome
mental simulation,
a waking dream resounding
as if from the sun's bright speaker
like the soundtrack to an old
movie musical

[free verse poem prompted by my singing various songs throughout the dreams of 4-10-16. *This snatch of lyrics is from "Out of My Dreams" (in the musical "Oklahoma") and was the dream singing that trailed me into waking. Photomorph "Singing for the Sun" (3-28-16 009v2) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

* * * *
until next time, keep dreaming,
