PANIC SPREADS (photomorph) & IN THE CLASSROOM (dream narrative) by Roswila
IN THE CLASSROOM
a youthful teacher opens
the classroom door before
I can turn the handle to enter
sigh, I'd hoped this classroom
in the long familiar
high ceilinged hall
with its dark wood walls,
was empty so I could ponder
my next teaching plan in peace
but not only is she in here,
all her second graders
are sitting at attention
at the old wooden desks
even as I notice the kids,
the boy I'd had to correct a while
back, rushes out of the room
in a panic as if I've caught him
at something
and he's gone before I can even say
that no one needs to leave,
that I just want to sit quietly
at the back of the room
I know any words from me now
would fall on little ears deafened
by imagined and exaggerated fright,
wondering also why the teacher's silent,
does she even know the score
for not the first time I think that I am
as much a second grader as the kids
when it comes to human interactions
not only do I not get what's going on,
but I, too, just want to flee

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
