THE FUTURE OF DREAMS
(Five Scifaiku*)


earth's refugees
they ride starships
we, dreams

centuries
of frozen dreams
haunted cryo-ship

* * *

invaded by bodies
the dream ship fades
lost in space

* * *

strange dreams, these,
the elders say they are of earth
genetic flotsam

* * *

seventh generation
dreams of earth burn away
under the constant sun


[five (not dream based but about dreaming) scifaiku written at separate times in 2007 or earlier, and posted here in slightly different form in April of 2007. *A scifaiku is a haiku-like form with a science fiction, fantasy, horror or cosmologic theme. I came across these when looking for something to post today as my dreams from last night have not generated any writing. They are strung together in an ever so vaguely sensible way: from leaving earth, to the trip across space, to life on a new planet. Which all together can be read as a "life of the human species" sci-fi story. And I now realize is a sort of hyperbolic recapitulation of my own life so far.
