RUMORS OF SPRING (photo) & AT WHAT PRICE (dreamku series) by Roswila

AT WHAT PRICE

how can I ever
help her with her resume
a third friend dumped all
my suggestions in the trash
without even reading them

invited and rejected in one fell swoop
all too typical of these two relationships

I decide for once
to hang in, simply to go
along for the ride
but even this new tactic
of mine is doomed to failure

as the car the three
of us sit in turns a corner
one drops a code word
it lands so hard on my ears
I can’t help but grit my teeth

they’re at it again,
trying to make me over
in their own image

my butt cannot find
a safe purchase on the car’s
slanted bucket seat
clearly not the place for me
I get out before the highway

I’d have loved to watch the tides of spring flowers
rolling by the roadway, but at what price beauty?

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO DREAMKU (& PHOTOS): The dream-based poems posted on this blog -- dreamku, tanka, two-liners, and monoku -- are offered in the spirit of collaboration. I have done my part. Now it’s your turn to jump in and see what comes up for you. I.e., there is no right or wrong way to understand or interpret any of these dream offerings. Even my own understandings of them change over time. And it gives me joy when a reader sees something in any of them that I have not.

For more in-depth exploration:

-- very brief comparison of dreamku and haiku: DREAMKU ARE NOT HAIKU
