OUT OF THE ASHES (photo art) & A DAY'S BURNT OFFERING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
A DAY’S BURNT OFFERING
each moment a bridge
braided of echoes and reflections
each landing on another shore
subsumed in the unknown
past the impetuous reach
of a wish, a white hot
dandelion fluff floats through
a bevy of dragon flies
and disappears over the sea
the sand briefly brilliant
as a lavender sky lies down
on a teal blue horizon,
and boulders shrug the heat
of the day off their backs
the sea trades in transformation
plying itself from here to there
from now to then snake oil
and panacea elixir and placebo
never and always a cooling fire
the gibbous moon hangs like a coin
caught in a game slot I have not asked
my burning question of this arcade
oracle draped in starry skirts
and receive no answer
the only human afoot under
the night I head back to the Inn
murmuring feverishly to the moon
that I adore Her a car hums by trailing
a coda like fairy dust from an open window:
“She’s putting
silver moonbeams
in her hair!”
[non-dream free verse poem written in May of 2012 and very slightly tweaked today. This is another poem drawn from notes made in the mid-to-late1980’s on one of the many day-long hikes I always took each summer on trips to Block Island, Rhode Island. (The other, also posted here, is "The Journey".) Photo art "Out of the Ashes" (7-19-14 001v7) by Roswila]
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
