DAILY DREAMKU

BLACK LEATHER GANG
(dream tanka)

The black leather gang
pads up my apartment stairs.
Sleek, like young panthers,
they set my heart to racing
with the thrill of hope’s bright bite.

By the way, if you comment about a specific dreamku or series, please copy that dreamku or title into your comment or email, as this post changes daily and I sometimes can't tell which one is being referred to. Thanks! All of my DAILY DREAMKU posted in a month, appear after the end of that month in one post on this blog.

[See other sorts of recent posts below. Not all works posted here are dream-based. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams.]

NOTE AS OF MARCH 13, 2008: I have finally started the promised yahoo group for dreamku. Here's the link to the very brief introduction, where you can join us as we explore dreams and this small but powerful new poetry form: DREAMJIN: A Group for Dreamku, Haiku-Like Dream Poems.

Links to a my three-part post "A DREAMKU PRIMER: Writing Haiku-Like Poems About Your Night Dreams": PART ONE: Introduction & Writing Dreamku as DreamWork; PART TWO: Elements of the Haiku Form Used in Dreamku; and PART THREE: How to Write Dreamku (the second and third parts have some overlap). If you try your hand at or have already written dreamku, please feel free to post some in a comment or email them to me (under "View My Complete Profile" in the sidebar) or join DREAMJIN (see above).

N.B. I offer all of my work on this blog -- poetry, prose or art -- simply as explorations. Also, in working with this blog I have realized I am essentially telling the story of my life. In a jig-saw puzzle form, piece by piece. I hope you get something from whatever pieces of the picture you view.

P.S. If you see any typos anywhere on this site, I'd love it if you'd email me or leave a comment telling me what and where. I recently found some typos in older posts (despite all the proofing I do) and it was a bit like having been out in public grinning and then finding I had spinach in my teeth!

Hi Billy,

Glad you liked this one. I enjoyed the pun, and the feminism implied in the dream. :-) Thanks for reading some of my other work. I hope someday to write tankas as well as you do. It's still a very new form for me.

Hi Billy,

Thanks! That last line was a beautiful sight in the dream.

(BTW, for anyone reading this there is a line break after "the wings," must have gotten lost in the transition. :-))

I love the image that I get of a magical looking forest in an unlikely place. So moody.

Oh, yes, I'm so glad that magical feeling comes through in this one, vcw. Thing is, it may have been a clairvoyant dream (at least in part) as the next night I saw a slide show on Big Sur and some of the photos of the Redwoods were very much like that dream. :-)

Love your posts, always - but just came to say that I saw you on Tiny Words and always enjoy knowing that I know someone! Grin. Nice work!

Thanks so much, tumblewords. It's so nice to know that a friend ran in to me, so to speak, on tinywords. Isn't that a wonderful site? :-D

I loved the ku

she lies on top of me
he just touches my shoulder
performance poem

It is so sensual. Even if it is a she baby on her mother with the father touching the mother's shoulder. No... maybe even more so then, but that was not my first impression.

Glad you liked that 'ku, VCW. It was a pleasurable dream. (At the end I was vaguely curious about the man's motives, though. How typical of me, ey? :-D)

Haha!!
I know what you mean about the typos Roswila! I often find that and yes, it is like having been caught with spinach in yer teeth or, worse still, having your skirt tucked into your undies..my word! That's happened a couple of times too *blush*

Great blog!

My turn to LOL! Yes, long gauze skirt tucked in undies -- very blush-producing.

Glad you made the "jump" from my Tarot blog, to try out the water here. :-)

I like the idea of dreamku!
So you both keep a dream journal, and a different notebook for dreamku? I have always found it hard to write my dreams down for poetry.

A low bow to you who can. ;-)

all my best,

Alan

Hi Alan,

Oh, yes, two separate journals for dreams and dreamku. However, I date the dreamku (or tanka, or haibun, etc.) the same date as the source dream so I can find and match them up, as needed. :-)

Hope the haiku contest is going extremely well. Literacy is a very worthy, even crucial cause to support. (I would have entered long since, but this old lady's retirement income is a wee bit skimpy.)
